Trace a universe into being.

A quiet puzzle game of glass glyphs for iPhone. The shape of your line decides the score.

The brief

Nascent is our own iPhone puzzle game, formerly called Weave. We wanted a game that is calm to play and honest about its scoring, with no ads, timers or accounts.

What we built

  1. The board

Drag through touching glyphs of one form. The line is named as you draw it, with what it scores and what lifting your finger does to Flow.

Nascent on a phone: level 9, Spore, in the Life age. A row of six gold glyphs is traced, and the line above the board reads Rod, becomes a Beam, plus 1,728, Flow plus 1.
  2. Insights

Every few levels you choose one of three Insights, a rule that stays with you for the rest of the run.

Nascent’s Insight choice: Choose an Insight, it stays with you for the rest of the run. Three cards, Momentum, Patience and Kin, each with its rule, Momentum selected, and a Choose button.
  3. Where the points came from

At the end of a level, tap the score to see the moves, the best move, Flow and chains behind it.

Nascent’s level complete card: Level 1, Void, Reached 667, score 7,503, with a breakdown of moves, best move, Flow, chains and bombs, and a Continue button.
  4. The end of a run

The final score, the level reached and any new bests, then a new run. Each run has a code that decides its glyphs.

Nascent’s run-over screen: a score of 507, Level 18, Granary, in the Civilisation age, New best score and New best level badges, a run code, and Play again, Home and Leaderboards.
